Description

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) will play a key role in improving, creating and maintaining product and supplier quality. The SQE is responsible to implement and to uphold the Supplier Quality management system processes, by addressing quality issues in a reactive and proactive approach; lead/facilitate and help improve the supplier’s ongoing contributions relative to quality and cost, ensure systems and processes are in place to meet Creston requirements, ISO and best industry standards.The SQE will seek to understand issues causing disruption in the assembly facility and undertake actions with suppliers to ensure root cause closure, exercising SCAR’s, FMEA’s, 8D’s, and all appropriate Six Sigma methodologies to mitigate variation in supplier’s processes, warranty/customer returns, manufacturing/schedule disruption or failure.

The SQE will be accountable for the overall quality of suppliers, supplier quality system, PPM, and deliverables – resulting in a seamless supply to Crestron and its customers. This position will be required to travel to suppliers (domestic and international) to audit and foster a good working relationship and to ensure suppliers are working to agreed procedures and standards - producing detailed reports on supplier performance monitoring quality, cost and delivery and where appropriate will initiate quality plans / improvement programs.

Responsibilities

 

  • Review, analyze and close customer complaints, manufacturing variance requests, and first article inspections by judging risk analyses and justifications, determining corrective and preventive actions at suppliers, looks for opportunities with suppliers to eliminate recurrences
  • Manage Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) programs for assigned suppliers
  • Facilitate customer complaints that ensures adequate investigation and corrective actions are taken by suppliers.
  • Leads and assess supplier capabilities through direct visits, develop correction action plans, and follow up with suppliers to ensure deficiencies/risks are mitigated.
  • Responsible for developing strategies for supplier quality programs and initiatives; including non-conformance management, supplier surveillance, leading risk identification and mitigation efforts.
  • Work with new and existing suppliers to develop, implement, maintain, and drive continuous improvement of supplier’s quality, cycle, and delivery performance through utilization tools such as Six Sigma MSA’s, SPC’s, DMAIC, FMEA, SPC, 8D Root Cause Analysis and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Optimize process capability on significant characteristics through effective application of statistical analysis techniques and training of suppliers in problem-solving. Provide expert analysis, guidance and support to suppliers in process Improvement
  • Maintain and analyzes key performance indicators, parts per million (PPM), and Cost of Poor Quality data to identify recurring trends and drive improvement actions to reduce internal and external failure costs.
  • Drives Supplier actions to verify component and process quality at the Supplier’s location to reduce (ultimately eliminate) the need for incoming inspection activities.
  • Work effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams to eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality and delivery of sourced components and apply knowledge of inspection equipment and techniques to provide timely data usable for informed decision-making.
  • Manage and execute the supplier qualification and supplier surveillance process. Work with suppliers and Supply Chain to establish and manage continuous improvement programs including supplier ratings and supplier score cards.
  • Establish a structured approach to improve quality assurance and drive consistency and adherence to quality procedures.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role 
  • Must have a minimum: Bachelor’s of Science degree from an accredited institution in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Equivalent Discipline)
  • Proficient with a personal computer and highly proficient using MS Office 2010 - 2013, software applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • SAP experience preferred but not required.
  • A dynamic personality style with the ability and willingness to promote appropriate change and improvement
  • Ability to travel approximately 25 – 50%.
  • Experience in Six Sigma and Lean methodology; certified preferred.
